Paul Cézanne's "Still Life with Apples," painted in 1890, is a striking example of the artist's innovative approach to still life. The composition features a table with a white tablecloth adorned with a variety of apples, some whole and others sliced. Cézanne employs his characteristic geometric forms, using cylindrical shapes for the apples and creating a sense of depth through careful placement and overlapping of objects. The color palette is subdued, with earthy tones dominating the scene. One notable aspect of the painting is Cézanne's exploration of the relationship between form and color, as well as his use of multiple perspectives to depict the objects. The brushstrokes are visible, contributing to the texture and vibrancy of the artwork. "Still Life with Apples" reflects Cézanne's ongoing fascination with the harmonious interplay between shapes and colors, showcasing his influential role in the development of modern art and his commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional representation.
This class is for all skill levels. Even if you have never used a paintbrush, you will leave the AMA Classroom with your own original artwork, one that you will be proud to hang on the wall at your home or office. The AMA will provide paint, brushes, and a 16×20 canvas, as well as refreshments. You can bring a favorite beverage or snack if you want. Don’t wait too long to register. Each of our first four painting parties sold out weeks ahead.
